A rare and romantic French wedding vase is made of white porcelain; the entire surface has been carefully hand-painted with refined pure gold decorations; the vase's elegant and vibrant shape is reminiscent of the scalloped Angiosperm flower. This type of vase was called a "nuptial vase" (vase d'Eglise marièe) in France because it was brought by the bride and groom to the church where the wedding took place to embellish the altar during the ceremony; since the vase then remained the property of the church, the bride and groom to save on costs would commission the craftsman who made it to decorate only the front part, the part facing the worshippers, leaving the back part incomplete, which would remain hidden from the crowd! The vase was produced in France between 1870 and 1880 respecting ancient traditions and the raw material (kaolin) by master craftsmen. "Porcelain de Paris" is a term that refers collectively to the various porcelain decoration workshops and studios in and around Paris, France. It is not the name of any single company or manufacturer and is usually applied to beautifully crafted objects produced in and around Paris in the mid to late 19th century. The manufacturers are sometimes anonymous and generally unknown or created only a few rare pieces. Antique porcelain objects from Paris are the most desired by collectors and can be found in many museums around the world. The vase is in good condition, in some parts the pure gold appears slightly worn, but this makes the object much more fascinating and historically interesting. Measures width cm.21, depth cm.11, height cm.26. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (custom-made wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects. less
