An antique French salt glazed humidor tobacco jar dating from the early 1900s. It is typical of the production of … more An antique French salt glazed humidor tobacco jar dating from the early 1900s. It is typical of the production of stoneware from the French region of Beauvais. It is of cylindrical form and modelled as a tree trunk, decorated in relief with applied oak leaves and acorns. The tobacco humidor has an hinged lid with a pewter metal frame and acorn finial. The interior of the lid has a deep opening for inserting a moist sponge to ensure the pipe smoking tobacco does not dry out. There are no visible maker's mark.
It will make a great gift for a pipe smoker. less
