Offered is a wonderful vintage French terracotta rabbit made at the Poterie du Mesnil de Bavent in Normandy, France. The Bavent Potteries were originally opened in 1842 and though they have transformed over the years, they are still making pottery today in the same town in northern France. They were originally known for making wonderful tiles and roof ornaments including finials and whimsical animals that adorn rooftops around the world.
This sweet bunny dates from second half of the 20th century and is in excellent condition. She has no crazing, cracks, breaks, or repairs. The only thing to mention is a hard to see glaze flake to tip of the right ear (please see photo) which I found by feeling the tip with my finger. Overall the faience glaze over terracotta looks wonderful and gives this charming rabbit a true air of whimsey. Her eyes are glass and she measures 9"(L) x 4.5 "(W) x 6.5" (T). She weighs nearly three pounds. She has two impressed signature marks to the bottom. .
This high quality bunny would mix well into your French Country or Rustic European decor - she would even look great in the garden. She would also make a wonderful addition to your Easter vignette.
