This " Paul Gauguin : In Soviet Museums " rare vintage 1988 first edition lithograph print large hardcover Postimpressionist French Modern Art book is a very special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover art book with navy blue linen covered boards, embossed cover and spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Aurora Art Publishers, Leningrad, printed and bound in Austria by Globus, Vienna in 1988. Authored with compelling text by Asya Kantor-Gukovskaya translated from the Russian by Ashken Mikoyan, layout and design by Liubov Rakhmilevich.
Eugene Henri Paul Gauguin ( 1848 - 1903 ) The French born Postimpressionist artist is known for his experimental use of color and Synthesist style that were distinctly different from Impressionism. His work was influential to the French Avant-Garde, and many artists such as Picasso and Matisse. Artworks by Gauguin are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
Soviet museums possess more than 20 masterpiece artworks by Paul Gauguin. Many are in the collections of The Hermitage Museum in Leningrad and The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow. Most all of these artworks were painted during his famous period of residence in Tahiti. These works are highly comprehensive in volume and quality of Gauguin's master works illustrating his most important and fruitful period.
The art works in these museums originate from private collections assembled in The Early Twentieth Century by collectors Sergei Shchukin and Ivan Morozov, both men are well known to connoisseurs of Modern French Art. This special volume reproduces all of those artworks alongside many additional references, providing a beautiful and engaging view into the work and life of this seminal early Modern Master artist.
The rare out of print 1st edition large format hardcover art book measures 10 1/2" W X 13 1/2" H X 3/4" D, with 188 pages. It features 449 offset lithograph print illustrations, including 75 plates in full-color, a biographical outline, notes to the text, and bibliography.
