- It shows normal wear, minor scratches & scuffs and chipped glaze. The faucets and drains are in current use. Both … moreIt shows normal wear, minor scratches & scuffs and chipped glaze. The faucets and drains are in current use. Both sinks' valve handles rotate smoothly and white porcelain have no chips or damage. The fixtures and plumbing to the floor show tarnish, but not beyond restoration. The soap holders are fairly corroded but also in use. From what we have read, there are some relatively easy options to repair the chips in the sink bowls and not have to re-glaze the entire sink and there are kits in the green color. We don't see it taking much to make it look really nice without re-glazing. It already looks great and the reason we haven't re-glazed, but we don't mind imperfect. To get the sink looking pristine, a re-glaze would be in order. There is a local place nearby that does it (Finishing Touches, leelanau county). less

Rare, double pedestal bathroom sink, salvaged from the Northern Michigan Asylum in Traverse City, MI. The sink is a showstopper and conversation piece for anyone who visits.
There is a photo of a cast number on the underside shown, but we are unsure exactly what year the sink was made but is similar in style to those of the 1930s.
The asylum was built in 1885, and is currently a mixed use retail and residential/commercial space. See https://www.thevillagetc.com/history/ for the history of the former Traverse City State Hospital also known as the Northern Michigan Asylum. There were a number of items salvaged from the hospital, including sinks that were handicapped accessible. less
