Item offered is a early 1800s (1820s - 1830s) U.S. Southeastern Region Sheraton Solid Tiger Maple and Cherry wood chest of drawers. It has 4 good size dovetailed drawers, and nice turned column posts over the front legs. It has chamfered drawer bottoms on each drawer. The second drawer has two rat holes chewed through the upper edge of the backboard of the drawer [see pictures] which is not uncommon for chests and dressers of this age. It is in good usable condition the drawers drag a bit but because each drawer is heavy but does not stick. The mixture of tiger maple and cherry is gorgeous and it has its original finish and patina. The top is cherry with a tiger maple trim. The sides are cherry wood, the columns are tiger maple, the drawer fronts are tiger maple and the boards between the drawers are cherry wood. This piece has been used for almost 200 years continuously and even though it is as sturdy today as it was created it is an old chest of drawers and has signs of use and wear. It has not been restored to its original self. It has all its scars and character marks it has earned over the years and has many more generations of use and life left in it. It is a great cabin, farmhouse, or cottage piece. It has the signature of the maker on the back in big cursive pencil but most of it is faded and unreadable.

It does have the wear of an old utilitarian piece. The are scratches, dents, cracks, and a few repairs but mostly all original with original finish. It has a back leg repair that was turned and not as good as the other legs but is a sturdy solid fix. The other back leg has a solid glued piece repair that was not structural or weight-bearing. The glides of the drawers have been replaced at different times. The knobs are not original. The dovetailed drawers have chamfered bottoms and all drawers have their original bottoms. The drawers are heavy and the top drawer weighs about 25-30lb by itself. Some planks are as wide as 21" The tiger maple and cherry wood is thick solid wood with no rot. All drawers have locks. I know 2 locks work and 2 seem to be frozen. 2 of the 4 brass keyholes are missing. Inspect all pictures for a more accurate depiction of the condition of the piece. Very handsome chest great farmhouse/cabin piece. less
