Description: The iconic “La Chaise’ lounge chair was designed by Charles and Ray Eames for The Museum of Modern Art’s 1948 … more The iconic “La Chaise’ lounge chair was designed by Charles and Ray Eames for The Museum of Modern Art’s 1948 International Competition for Furniture Design. The piece was inspired by Gaston Lachaise’s sculpture, ‘The Floating Figure’.

Although the chair was intended to be released in 1950, Herman Miller found manufacturing the piece to cost too much and never released one. Over 40 years later, the ‘La Chaise’ was finally put into production. In 1991, the first market pieces rolled off the production line of Vitra in very limited numbers. This first edition example is one of them.

The first generation chairs were constructed with a double layer of fiberglass making the piece substantial, durable and heavy weight. Later models use a single layer. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
