This Alex Katz " Unfamiliar Images " rare vintage 2002 first edition lithograph print collector's hardcover Pop Art book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover art book with black linen covered boards, vanilla cream stamped cover and spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Alberico Cetti Serbelloni Editore, Milan Italy. Printed in 2002 iN Italy by Industrie Grafiche Lombarde Settimo Milanese, Italia, art director Giacomo Merli. It features a monograph survey of the artworks of the artist Alex Katz, with accompanied compelling text in English and Italian authored by Enzo Cucchi and Vincent Katz, with an interview by David Salle.
Alex Katz ( B. 1927 ) is an American Modernist artist of a Jewish background born in Brooklyn New York. Katz is one of the most recognized and widely exhibited artists of his generation. Often associated with The Pop Art Movement, he began exhibiting his work in 1954, and since that time has produced a celebrated body of work with expressive power that includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, and prints.
His earliest work took inspiration from various aspects of Mid-Century American culture and society, and over the past five decades he has established himself a a preeminent painter of Modern Life. The distinctive poetic portraits and lyrical landscapes bear a flattened surface and economy of line. He uses characteristically wide brushstrokes, large swathes of color, and refined compositions creating a new and distinctive type of Realism in American Art that evokes a cool but seductive emotional response.
Since the 1950's Alex Katz's work has been the subject of more than 200 solo exhibitions and nearly 500 group exhibitions around the world. Artworks by Katz are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
Alex Katz has personally gathered for this book 110 paintings not widely known to the public. In most cases, they belong to the artist's private collection and are works for which he maintains a particular regard. The paintings come from various periods and genres of Katz's oeuvre. This special volume " Unfamiliar Images " is further enriched by a conversation interview with Katz by the artist David Salle, a poetic text by Enzo Cucchi, and an introduction by the artist's son Vincent Katz, which stands as testimony to the vitality Alex Katz's work communicates to succeeding generations of artists.
The rare out of print 1st edition collector's large format hardcover art book measures 12" W X 12" H X 1 1/4" D, with 145 pages. It is printed on premium heavyweight paper stock featuring 109 lithograph print illustrations, public collections list, selected solo exhibitions list, and a monographs and catalogues reference list.
