The teapot was meticulously hand-sculpted and painted by artisans of the Ardmore Ceramics studio, Elizabeth Ngubeni and Mavis Shabalala. Sculptor Elizabeth Ngubeni was known as a small piece modeller and painter, while Mavis Shabalala joined the Ardmore team with her sister as a painter. This piece was produced in 2001. Ardmore Ceramics is a culturally significant ceramics studio, located in the Champagne Valley, KwaZulu-Natal, contributing significantly to the global appreciation of contemporary black art from South Africa.
