A superb pair of Art Deco burr walnut 3ft single beds, complete with side irons and wooden slats. Retailed by Harrods, London. Labelled. Circa 1930.
The headboards and the fronts of the footboards are superbly veneered in highly figured burr walnut, which has been book-matched to give a stunning effect. They are finished with a crossbanded edge and solid walnut moulding.
The beds are in excellent condition and have been sympathetically re-finished in a shellac. It has a smooth waxed finish, but still retains a few light authentic marks to highlight the pieces' genuine heritage. There are a few light marks to the inside of the foot board spaces. Please refer to the photographs. We have added modern chrome plated Kenrick castors to the headboards, which we feel are aesthetic to the beds.
Please note, the burr veneers show veneer patches in them. These are original and would have been set to cover defects and voids that burr veneer creates.
The beds come with the original cast iron bolt on sides, which are sturdy when complete. A set of fresh, modern slats are also included with each bed.
When the beds are placed together, the total width of the irons is exactly 6ft, and could make a superking size bed. Two single 3ft mattress will fit well, but a 6ft mattress will need to be custom made, as the length is 190cm instead of the standard 200cm.
When the beds are together, the footboards do not exactly line up, please refer to photograph number 7.
The side irons simply bolt on, and the pine bases fit onto these. The beds are secure when bolted.
The footboard is 67cm high. The inside mattress space is 190cm long. The slats are 30cm high from the floor. There is 37cm in height from the slats to the start of the burr walnut on the headboard.
