Likely originating in Mongolia, the chest was painted and lacquered in the 19th century. The interior of the chest is adorned with Chinese characters. The base can also be used alone as a coffee table. The trunk is spacious and perfect for blankets. Accessible by a half-door on the top. The sides feature both the original black lacquer and a very deep red lacquer added in the 1800s. Functional and beautiful piece of furniture. less
