There is just enough patina around the edges to give it charm, and not enough to give it the appearance of having deteriorated over the years. After a close inspection in a search for any damage or excessive wear, it was determined that aside from the fact that 2 of the 3 "braces" at the elbows have broken off tips, all is in fine condition. We were tempted to make the last one match, but didn't end up doing it. The rest is free of any damage or corrosion beyond a light layer on the underside of the base. The sockets are all clean and rust free. The Franklin Bakelite switch knob is fine, and the wiring to the sockets looks good. The cardboard candle sleeves are showing their age with wear around the top and bottom edges and some discoloration. The Pole section is straight, solid and free of any issues. The glass piece looks excellent overall, as does the paper lined grate below it. The top of the base is in good shape with no issues, and the underside has light rust. The original foot switch is good, the vintage "Japan" bulb works and the Snipit plug is in good shape. As can be seen, there has been some rewiring at some point, which leads to the testing of the lamp. The foot switch functions properly, lighting up the glass piece and the grated area below it. The 3 regular sockets were supplied with new light bulbs and were found to not function with the turn of the top switch, and the mogul socket was not tested as there was no bulb available. There was nothing at all done to try and rectify the lack of power to the sockets. The wires at the bottom were not re-secured. It was just noted that there was an issue there. The lamp was given a date of 1915 as that is the midway point of the Franklin switch company's 1910 to 1920 run. less
