This wonderful Marc Chagall lithograph is from the first edition of the 1950 March / April (No. 27-28) cover of the French magazine "Derriere Le Miroir". Derriere Le Miroir ("Behind The Mirror") was a French art magazine published by Maeght Paris between 1946 and 1982. Many of the great artisans, painters, writers and poets of the second half of the 20th Century contributed at one time or another to Derriere Le Miroir.
This particular edition of DLM featured Chagall on its cover because he had an exhibition of his work showing in Paris during the Spring of 1950. That this particular lithograph is also signed by Chagall makes it most rare and even more of a collectors item.
At some point in its life this lithograph has been mounted in a charming faux-wood frame with a nice ornate pattern.
The frame measures: 21 7/8" width x 25 7/8" height x 1 1/8" depth.
The actual lithograph measures 10 1/2" width x 14 1/2" height.
The white card (also containing his signature) around the lithograph measures 16" x 20".
The whole piece with frame weighs 3lb 7oz.
This is a true conversation piece and will be a major addition to any collection. :o)
