"Night In Day" first appeared as a painting, marking Blackshear's unique Afro Nouveau style - a style heavily influenced by Art Nouveau and Art Deco. This allegorical masterpiece depicts night as a man wrapped in daylight, using color and symbolism to vividly evoke both nighttime and daytime. The elegant drapery and intricate details add extra aesthetic to the powerful piece.
The sculpture of the same title is a limited edition produced by Willitts Designs, numbered 812/1000. This delicately crafted heavy resin sculpture is mounted on a wood base, with Swarovski crystals adorning the night sky on its front. The base bears the "TB II" signature.
Good condition with minimal dust/dirt from being displayed and slight wood checking to the base (see last two photos).

About the artist:
Thomas Richman Blackshear II (1955- ) is an African-American artist known for his paintings in Evangelical churches. He is also a sculptor and designer of ornaments, often featuring African American themes. Blackshear introduced Ebony Visions in April 1995 with the release of the first six designs, including The Storyteller, The Protector, The Nurturer, Siblings, Madonna, and Tender Touch. Since then, he has created many new designs to add to this collection. The Ebony Visions collection is a masterful display of romantic symbolism, demonstrating the artist's incredible design sense, unique eclectic style, and mastery of color. These sculptures depict a range of powerful yet subtle emotions, deliberately set in a timeless context to transcend specific time, place, or culture. The collection emphasizes the beauty of the human form and symbolizes universal aspirations and ideals, reflecting the unique characteristics of African American culture. less
