About this chair:

What makes the chair so strong is the way in which it is crafted. Green ash, because it bends easily, is used for the back hoop. When wet, the ash is pounded down over the spindles; when it dries, the wood tightens. Maple is utilized for the spindles because it’s a wood that gives good definition. The soft pine of the seat lends itself to easy carving. It’s the ability to hand-carve the seat, deep at the back, that makes it so comfortable. There is a great deal of hand-sanding resulting in a smooth finish which can’t be achieved by machine. In total, there are about 16 hours of labour in each chair.
