This beautiful vase with a swollen body, called Tianqiuping, is decorated extensively with a thousand flowers in reserve in brick-colored lacquered surrounds decorated with birds.
This lovely vase is made of Arita Imari porcelain marked Hichozan Shinpo on the bottom of the vase.
Its dark red, blue, green and white tones make it an elegant centerpiece.
Hichozan Shinpo is a company that operated in Arita (Saga Prefecture) from 1856 to 1900, and whose products, thanks to the resilient Marshal Tashiro Monzaeman (1816-1900), were exhibited at the world's largest art events , notably the universal exhibitions of Paris in 1867 and 1878, the international exhibition of Vienna in 1873
The town of Arita is famous for giving birth to Arita porcelain. At the beginning of the 17th century, Sam-pyeong Yi, a Korean potter, and his colleagues discovered a piece of kaolin on Mount Izumi. It is from this white clay that the first porcelain was produced in Japan.
Imari porcelain refers to a production of Japanese ceramics, made in the ancient province of Hizen on the island of Kyūshū, domain of Saga, and mainly in the kilns of the town of Arita. Until the end of the 18th century, porcelain from this province was grouped together and exported from the port of Imari which gives its name to this production. But we also use “Arita porcelain” to designate the same thing.
