‘Best in Class' Alvar Aalto Model 91 Dining Table & Six Model 611 Dining Chairs by Finmar Ltd Finland circa 1940, the beautiful circular Model 91 dining table made from the finest Karelian Birch veneer with its original Lazy Suzan centre tray, raised on four rectangular legs, with original Finmar plaque to the underside, originally designed in 1933, matched with a set of Six Model 611 stacking chairs newly upholstered in the finest Caramel leather with brass stud detail, the chairs are also made from Karelian Birch, Finmar plaque and stamp to the underside of each chair, originally designed in 1929, Karelian Birch burr is one of the most distinctive and rare in the world, although birch is grown all over Finland, it’s the unique soils of the small area of Karelia that give it its beautiful grain, recognised by Finnish craftsmen in the 18th century, the birch burr has been used for the world’s most covetable furniture ever since, tightly controlled felling and the fact that it can only be harvested in mid-winter when the ground is frozen, make it a rare wood used for premium pieces of furniture, but it is also sustainable, this set is offered in museum quality and is probably the best set available currently anywhere in the world, reserve now.
