This really is a Great Looking Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Spirits Jug. It is Not Marked as Such but it is an Approx 1 Gallon Size. It is Embossed - Signed by the Documented Maker NICHOLS & BOYNTON BURLINGTON VERMONT. Records Indicate that the Brief Partnership of Nichols & Boynton were only Business - Producing Stoneware Items From Approx 1854 to 1855. It is Rendered in a "Beehive" Form and it has a Classic American Salt Glaze Exterior. The Front of the Jug has a Very Nice Gracefully and Well Executed Hand Decorated Cobalt Blue Stylized Flower Decoration. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of Jugs were Commonly Used to Store Liquids such as Ciders, Vinegar, Ales, Liquors & Spirits, Spring Water Etc. It is in Very Nice Overall Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. It has No Damage and No Repairs. It Does Have an Assortment of Exterior - Surface Only Glaze Imperfections, Faint Surface Hairlines, Glaze Color Variations & Spots Etc. All of which are Either Age and Use Related or Would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common. It is in Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable if so Desired.
NOTE That it Also Comes with its Original Hand Carved Wood Spout Stopper - Plug.
It Measures Overall Approx. 11 1/4 Tall x 7 1/4 Inches Long - Wide.
