This is a great mid-century modern set of eight roly poly glasses designed by the iconic Dorothy Thorpe. This pattern has the thick sterling silver band and was produced from 1946-1963. I would estimate this was made in the later years.

Note: Some research I did that might be helpful for a new owner of Dorothy Thorpe: Use extra caution when cleaning these roly poly glasses. If you polish the silver it will go back to looking tarnished in a couple weeks so do it right before you plan to have company. When you polish, be gentle and don’t scrub back and forth. Use a circular motion. Thorpe collectors have advised washing very carefully with gentle soap like Dawn and a soft sponge or even just your finger tips. Facebook groups of Dorothy Thorpe nerds exist and there is a wealth of knowledge.

Condition:

Very good vintage condition with a few cups that show minor loss of the silver plating. (You can mainly see it when you hold the cup up to the light.) Otherwise, no noticed chips, cracks or damage. Has some normal wear for age. Please see all photos. less
