A unique French faucet tap dating to circa 1820, this highly detailed spout has the appearance of a swan with a craned neck. Swan motifs were sometimes seen during the Empire period, as it was stated that Napoleon’s first wife, Josephine, favored the animal.
The swan’s neck terminates inside a foliate cup, with a portion of the leaf embellishing the neck, resembling feathers. There are several protruding rings along the horizontal pipe, separated by two sections of gadroon. The tail end of the pipe and the T-joint are both lightly threaded, allowing it to be screwed into a tap. Our Empire swan faucet would make a wonderful decorative outlet when paired with a sink or water feature.
