This two-piece glazed porcelain set depicts a pair of young men in traditional ceremonial dress. The second figure reclines with his head resting on his right hand. His elaborate attire also features complex and vivid patterning.
The technical mastery of chinese porcelain production reached extraordinary heights during the 19th century amidst the waning years of the Qing dynasty. Complex multicolor enamelware, intricate figurines, and novel forms showcased both continuity of tradition and innovation in decorative schemes. As chinese porcelain gained immense popularity in the West, thriving export markets stretched artisans’ talents and cemented China's reputation for porcelain excellence despite declining imperial power. Skillful artistry kept chinese ceramic arts highly relevant on the global stage. less
