Opening its doors in 1940, Toots Shor's was owned an operated by Bernard "Toots" Shor. Shor was an avid baseball fan. Players like Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio got first-rate service without being hassled for autographs by staff or fans. Other celebrity patrons included Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, and Ernest Hemingway. Joe DiMaggio and Jackie Gleason always ate for free!
