It is a fine example of the individualized decorative techniques practiced by Andersen Design in production used as an art form.

This seal was designed by Weston and Brenda Andersen to be slip cast in red stoneware and decorated in variegated tones of black and grey and then dipped in white glaze. The eyes are ebony outlined in unembellished red stoneware. The seal is 17 inches long and weighs just under 4 lbs.

The decoration of this seal makes it very makes it very expressive and very unique.

Purchased from a California gallery in the early 1970's, it has been with me ever since. There is no signature mark visible because of the felt protective pad, but Andersen Design's vintage gallery page has photos of another.

I grew up near Newport Beach and Laguna where harbor seals can be seen and enjoyed, so I could not resist the beautiful coat mottling, the coloring and the expression on this sculpture.

Always on safe and protected display, it looks just like it did when I bought it, with no loss of color or gloss. I've moved to a much smaller house and no longer have room for many of my collected pieces. This one is special -- you won't be disappointed. less
