The design on each panel framed with a repeating green bell flower border. The panels connected with 2-way hinges allowing for a variety of display configurations. This can serve as a divider, can be mounted on a wall, a table screen or purely as a beautifully decorative piece on a console.
Retains Royal Doulton makers label on verso. Lacquer over wood construction.
Condition is excellent.

In the late 18th century this technique was used to imitate classical sculpture on walls, panels and ceiling decorations. Among glass painters, grisaille is the name of a gray, a vitreous pigment used in the art of colouring glass. In French, grisaille has also come to mean any painting technique in which translucent oil colours are laid over a monotone underpainting.
