They were made in the Louis Philippe style between 1870 and 1880 in an artisan workshop in the town of Cantù (Lombardy. Italy), one of the most important handcrafted furniture production areas in the region, Here there were numerous manufacturers of luxury and designer furniture, who created unique, custom-made pieces using fine materials and high-level craft techniques. The Louis Philippe style developed in France in the mid-nineteenth century, is characterized by solid forms and refined decoration and aims to enhance the practicality and functionality of furniture, whose forms are softened with rounded corners and rounded elements. Furniture produced in the Louis Philippe style introduces a wide variety of embellishments reminiscent of various eras: the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Second Empire, in each style something is taken and reworked according to the taste of the time. King or Antique Master chairs are generally larger than normal, and would have been made for Masonic leaders, schoolmasters, council leaders, and heads of families; anyone who owned and sat in a Master chair secured a position of authority over the group. In these understated and harmonious chairs, the use of curved lines in an interesting interplay of volume and geometry is skillfully emphasized, giving the object a timeless elegance that can characterize any room in the home. Our chairs have been fully restored, so they are in excellent condition; the walnut part has been lacquered with a burgundy-colored varnish, and the seat has been upholstered with a fine violet-colored linen fabric. Measures width cm.63, depth cm.55, height cm.84, seat cm.44. less
