About the work: Limited edition box set of 26 volumes published on the occasion of Andrea Rosen Gallery's 25 year anniversary, comprising 25 exhibition catalogues highlighting significant, curated group exhibitions, as well as a comprehensive index illustrating the gallery's complete exhibition history. (AR Gallery)
About the art dealer and gallery: Dealer Andrea Rosen has donated her eponymous gallery’s papers to the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Art (AAA). The files, comprising 250 linear feet of documents, will join the archives of more than two hundred other galleries whose histories are being safeguarded by the institution. Rosen opened her gallery in SoHo in 1990, and over the course of twenty-seven years, she championed the work of David Altmejd, John Currin, and Andrea Zittel, among others. In February 2017, Rosen announced that she was closing her space but that it would continue operating in a limited capacity—the gallery still represents the Cuban-born, American artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres, along with David Zwirner.
“Rosen was a meticulous record keeper,” Kate Haw, the director of the Archives of American Art, told Artnews. “The photo documentation is incredibly deep, and the correspondence with collectors and artists is really, really rich.” The organization’s staff is aiming to make an index for Rosen’s papers available by the end of the year.
