Handmade in the village of … more A most charming pair of rare and whimsical Nahua peoples pottery animal folk art candleholders. Handmade in the village of Chililico, Hidalgo, Central Mexico, primitive lightly fired earthenware, figural sculptural form, depicting a dark green stag deer and lighter green dog, painted with white lines, raised cavity on the back for holding a candle.

The deer example appears to be significantly older than the other, likely early 20th century or earlier, while the dog likely dates to the mid-century.
