18th/19th Century, Continental Europe, likely Italian, large thick rectangular architectural cast iron plaque with two points, decorated in relief with ancient Greco Roman horse chariot and charioteer. Likely after Pelops and Hippodamaia, depicting Alexander the Great & Nike, showing the triumphal entry of Alexander the Great into Babylon on a four-horse chariot driven by the goddess Nike.
The fireback is mounted with later iron brackets that allow the piece to be displayed freestanding.
