Own a piece of history. There's so much to say about this piece. James Mont's story is just unbelievable and the best part of owning a James Mont. It's fascinating ! : One of the most dazzling and notorious figures in twentieth century American design, James Mont burst onto the modern furnishing scene in the most unusual of ways. Beginning humbly at a Brooklyn electrical supply shop, Mont was able to transform himself into the go-to interior designer of both the New York underworld and of Hollywood royalty. Drawing on eastern influences and his own unpredictable personality, Mont’s designs and life make him one of the most intriguing figures of the American midcentury. Mont became the chosen designer of the Mob and also several celebrities, including Bob Hope and Lana Turner. He was involved in a murder and other scandals.
This dresser is spectacular and glamorous. Black Lacquer and Gold Leafed massive pulls make this piece a real show stopper. I had an estimate done on having it lacquered by a professional restoration company of Vintages and that was about $2000. At my listing price if you chose to do that you would still have way less in this than I have seen it listed for on multiple sites. I chose not to do it in case there was a collector who wanted it in it's found condition.
Long glass top is in great shape, one very small nick in the edge that can be placed towards the back or ground down I am sure. less
