Pair of Thai gilded Bronze Buddha Hands Fragments repurposed as bookends.
The bronze fragments are mounted on simple wooden bases so that they can be used as bookends.
Cast with thin and elongated fingers neatly detailed with nails and creases, finely modeled in the vitarka mudra which represents the gesture of debate, the palm with a raised design of a stylized floral blossom with circular petals to the center.
In the vitarka mudra the circle formed by the index finger and thumb symbolizes the flow of information and energy. This mudra is most often associated with BuddhaIt represents the transmission of his wisdom and is used when explaining his teachings. It is a very common hand gesture in the statues of Buddha especially in those of ancient Thailand.
