This original abstract landscape painting by widely exhibited Canadian artist Walter Hickling (1924-2011) depicts a flowing river over rocks of various sizes and colors. The artist captured the motion and fluidity of the water in a way that really brings this acrylic painting alive. It is signed and dated "Hickling 74" in the lower right. It is painted on canvas with a wood stretcher and simple wood slat frame making it perfect for a modern home. The jewel and earth tone colors add a beautiful richness and visual depth to the piece.
Hickling was a Canadian artist, poet, composer and educator who graduated from the Ontario College of Art and worked in his various artistic endeavors as a visual artist, musician, and writer throughout his career. In 1973 a fire destroyed his art studio. He preferred to exhibit in public spaces rather than selling his art through private galleries, though his work is in many private collections and numerous Canadian art museums and institutions. less
