Listing is for an antique bust that depicts Marie Antoinette, the Queen of France. The earthenware bust is modeled after the original marble one that Felix LeComte sculpted in 1783 that is on display at Versailles. Marie, 28 years old at the time, was dressed in her royal robes decorated with Fleur de Lis and a medallion of Louis XVI, her husband and King at her bosom. An elaborate floral crown is placed on her wig.
The bust is bolted onto a plinth base with square bolt. France mark on the base. The use of the bolt and the France mark leads me to think it’s very late 19th Century and the piece was created for export in the Grand Tour era.
I’ve done my best to capture accurate dimensions from Tabor surface to top of flower crown, the widest point across her arms and depth from a wall.

In comparing photos of the original marble, nothing seems amiss or restored. The earthenware is not glazed; the hue is somewhat uniform there are areas that are darker. A paint spot noted on her ermine wrap to the left of the medallion. A few small losses noted to the earthenware on and around the plinth. However the condition and appearance are rather remarkable given the size, material, and age. less
