We carry authentic Antique rugs and Vintage rugs that are truly one of a kind made all by hand with organic dyes and natural hand-spun wool. These mystical pieces have all been professionally cleaned prior to being listed and ready to use. Our entire collection is carefully curated with an extremely picky and discerning eye that captures the heart and soul of these weavers, and the story they share in their nomadic masterpieces.
Name: ASTONISHING Antique Persian Serapi KING of KINGS | WORLD CLASS DIAMOND Textile in Terracotta, Sunset-Clay & Indigo
Size: 9 feet wide on one end and 9.8 wide on the other x 15.10 feet long ; this is the sign of a true true nomadic marvel where perhaps the loom wasn't exactly a perfect rectangular or that during the weaving time of this piece the loom had been moved or re-assembled at a later date and not exactly as taught or more taught as it originally was; and this speaks to the nomadic essence of tribal weaving which is the opposite of "perfect" commercial weaving!
Age: Antique, 19th Century; C. 1880's or so
Pile: MINT restored condition; this piece for it's age is considered to be in EXCELLENT condition; incredible master restorations where needed and impossible to detect.
About: This is WITHOUT QUESTION the most Exotic and Provoking Antique Serapi I have personally ever seen. Part of that is due to the Rare size which exaggerates it's elongated and blooming medallion, but the SPIRIT of the rug is so present that it is impossible to not get lured into a Spell unlike any other! No other piece we've seen has this Naivety and Human element so effortlessly flowing though as if this was the weaver's fantasy that has come to life. The Loom was her Dream Catcher and her Subconscious was the foundation as she dreamt each knot on the fly getting lost in time with no boundaries - and here we are Marveling at her masterpiece. In all fairness, it isn't "her" masterpiece, but more appropriately "their" masterpiece, as it was a collective of probably 4-6 women on the loom working together weaving a diamond from organic sheep wool dunked and dyed in vats of boiling water mixed with spices, flora, vegetables, minerals, bark and plants attended to by the men in the village to masterfully get the truest and most crisp and rich dyes into the lanolin-filled sheep wool for the women to create with; this dream, then, wasn't just the women's dream turned reality, but the dream of a dozen or more peoples in the village. This is PURE ART at it's very best; World Class Aesthetic, Unimaginably Fine for a Persian Serapi, and Superb condition that would make you wonder if it was ever used in a main room or if there were velvet ropes around the piece to prevent people from stepping on it! Perfect low-pile patina to it, all the ends are there, magnificent drawing, spectacular color-palette to say the least, and just an All-Encompassing Work of Art down to the very last knot. If you are a Collector, Designer, Art Buyer, or Design Consultant; make no mistake, there is only one of these on the Planet and you are looking at it - consider this if Beauty, Quality, Condition, and MYSTICAL NOMADIC PRESENCE is what you're after. This piece is ~ $60K or more in New York or London showroom; I'm offering it for a fraction of that because I'm the Antique Rug Robin Hood!
This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.
Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.
Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!
We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.
