This is a traditional Farm House style dining set finished in a intentionally distressed dark mahogany stain. It consists of a round pedestal supported single leaf extendable all wood dining table and 4 original English tavern style barrel shaped Windsor style dining chairs The table has an extra thick 2.5" top and has a matching 23" wide portable leaf which has a seamless fit when engaged. The single layer wood slab round shaped table top has a subtle tooled rim surrounded by a rounded waterfall edge. The tops of the chairs have a thick rolled wood handle like crest that compliments the rounded table edge very nicely.
The circular table at its smallest is 44" in diameter and transitions to 67" x 44" and becomes oblong shaped after the solid wood leaf plank is engaged. The table has latches located on the underside which when unlocked allow for the table to slide open from the center smoothly and with ease. Once unlatched the mechanisms that allow this operation to slide open seamlessly are revealed and look like the inside of a swiss clock with metal pulleys, dials and gears. and wooden slider planks that extend the under support for the top. The table sits on a large solid wood turned wood pedestal that rests on flared Trestle feet. The 4" wide feet that branch out from the pedestal start about 6" from the floor and stair tier down until resting flat on the floor and free of any wobbling or accidental tipping no matter whether the table is compact and circular or longer and oblong.
Two captain and two side chairs have a Victorian old tavern style are included in this lot. The are likely both from the 1940s - 1950's. They share many of the same qualities. For example the legs, stretchers and spindles are all constructed with turned wood.. The barrel shaped farm house inspired chairs have shaped saddle seats and each of the captains chairs have a center stretcher as well as a second stretcher that is found between the rear legs giving it body builder qualities..
There is no makers mark discoverable and they likely are made in the USA in the last mid century however they very well could have come from the UK in the late 19th century since the original Windsor style that emanated from Windsor UK. We are not certain that the table and the four chairs are made by the same maker but they blend together perfectly and well enough to be considered matching..
Captains Chairs: (2) 26" Wide x 27" Deep x 29" Top of chair at head rail x 27 " to arm rest; Seat 17" . There are 7 spokes/spindles that emanate from the wood hand carved saddle seat and are connected to the legs like the original Windsor that this chair replicates; 2 stretchers that are situated along the sides; 1 stretcher that is placed between the two side stretchers and 1 stretcher placed between the back two flared legs

In Conclusion
Handsome pub chairs and matched in dark stained pine, solid traditional construction. The finish is deliberately "distressed." less
