This high quality … more Offered is a rare and unusual French copper jelly mold with a hammered repoussé or relief decoration. This high quality mold has a wonderful armorial crest decoration to one side, and a stylized floral spray to the other. This mold was made in France in the mid 1800's.

Nineteenth-century foodies adored jellied dishes. Different types of ingredients were used to either make a sweet or savory delicacy in many different shapes and sizes. These jellies would then accompany the main course. The armorial crest design on this mold would have been the Coat of Arms of a well to do family and this mold would have been used in kitchen of their family home.

This mold is in excellent antique condition. The raised design is fantastic. The crest contains a crown and a fleur-de-lis and both are flanked by two dragons - and the design is on a hand hammered ground. The work is exceptional and very intricate. The stylized floral design is very pretty consisting of two flowers surrounded by leaves. The mold is nearly perfectly round and has no dings or dents around the sides that I can see. There a few very minor dings to the flat bottom - please see the photos. This piece has been professionally polished and it shines. I would recommend using this mold for decorative use only. This mold measures 7" in diameter and is 3" tall.
