Takatori ware is a type of Japanese pottery that originated in Fukuoka Prefecture. Known for its “Kirei-sabi” aesthetic, pioneered by tea master Kobori Enshu in the 17th century, Takatori ware has a history that spans over 400 years. The pottery's delicate and refined designs have made it highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
This flat (hira) teabowl is designed for use in the warmer months when tea is taken cool. Although golden joinery (kintsugi) is more well known, this particular bowl has been repaired with silver dust. The notion is, that as time passes and the silver within the black joinery tarnishes and darkens, eventually the silver will fade; a visually poetic and playful reminder on the transience of all things. less
