- Stunning! Showstopper! Signed " made in Italy ". This is an elegant and extravagant piece of art. Functional art! This … more Stunning! Showstopper! Signed " made in Italy ". This is an elegant and extravagant piece of art. Functional art! This stove appears to never have been used despite the age. Hand painted blue and white with a heavy glazed terracotta. This piece comes apart for easy moving. 3 separate pieces not including the 4 pieces it site on. Has 2 squared risers in back and 2 front risers are large, clawed lion's paws. There are several holes pictured for venting heat and smoke. Several holes inside for coal or ash removal. Has a heavy brass door with latch to keep closed also pictured. The back has less painting, is a solid glazed white. This piece stops every single person that sees it right in their tracks! The inside of this piece appears to be new although it is a 19th century style and does have some age to the glaze and outside areas. No odor of having been used. No smoke or ash or burn marks. These stoves have been referred to as a "Stufa" in Italy. Pieces like this one were used in Italy for both heating and cooking and were considered a great symbol of status in an Italian household or estate home. less
