Amsterdam School red stained padouk side table or coffee table from around 1920, Netherlands. The table has a solid marble top in shades of green, white and yellow and comes off for transport.
The wood has been professionally restored and red stained like it originally was. The marble top has former restorations which have been executed very well. The table is completely stable and sturdy.
There is one door on one side with a large storage space inside.
The table has a chique and luxurious appearance and would be very suitable as a centerpiece in a large entrance hall, or as a coffee or side table in a stylish classical interior.
The Amsterdam School was an architectural and artistic movement that emerged in the early 20th century in the Netherlands. The style is characterized by expressive, dynamic forms, and intricate brickwork in architecture. The movement aimed to create a more organic and expressive style in contrast to the geometric and rational designs of the preceding Dutch architectural style.
Furniture from this period often featured robust, solid wood construction with bold, sculptural shapes and intricate detailing.
Key figures associated with the Amsterdam School, such as architects Michel de Klerk and Piet Kramer, contributed significantly to both architectural and interior design during this period. They often collaborated on various projects, creating a cohesive aesthetic that extended from the building's exterior to its interior spaces and furnishings.
Amsterdam School furniture is considered a reflection of the movement's broader ideals, incorporating a sense of craftsmanship, artistic expression, and a departure from more conventional design norms. Today, original pieces from this era are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts for their unique aesthetic and historical significance.
While the Amsterdam School as a formal movement declined in the 1930s, its impact on Dutch design and architecture is still very present. less
