Chinese mountain landscape painting executed on a large porcelain plaque. Painted en grisaille with a touch of red and blue. Symbolizes tranquility with the figure of Guan Yin standing on a bridge in the center. Painting shows a rocky landscape with trees and distant clouds. Signed lower right. Measures 15" x 9 7/8"; 17 1/4" x 12" x 1 1/8" framed. Good condition.
The Guanyin Bridge is a stone arch bridge located on the southern Mount Lu, in Lushan, Jiangxi, China. It was built in 1014 during the reign of Emperor Zhenzong of the Song dynasty. It is one of the earliest existing stone arch bridges in China.
