Van Thoren was born in Rotterdam in 1927. He received his art education at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in the city of Amsterdam. His beautiful landscapes and floral motifs are greatly influenced by the work of the great Dutch masters of the early 20th century. He often choose a plate of copper instead of canvas to achieve his very fine detail. In recent years his oval paintings on copper have won many prizes and are in private collections of many discriminating people all over the world.
