The seated dog has been hand-painted black, with light traces of the original orange terra cotta color showing. A bejeweled collar hangs loosely around the dog’s neck, adding details to the realistic skeletal and muscular composition of the athletic dog.

Austrian pinschers are rugged farm dogs, bred to be livestock guardians. Slightly heavier than their German ancestors, Austrian pinschers are known for their pear-shaped heads and alert visage, both very accurately depicted by this sculpture.
