- Celebratory putti blow horns and frolic with mythical dolphins amidst golden wheat and undulating waves of the sea. A golden … more Celebratory putti blow horns and frolic with mythical dolphins amidst golden wheat and undulating waves of the sea. A golden mystic sea horse adorns the upper chamber of the lamp in gallant pose with an alert putti rider. A centaur reveals his brazen physique with laurel leaves encircling his lower torso as a putti reaches over to pour a libation upon his open lips. Three swirling mermaids rejoice at the base holding up the mythological narrative of putti, dolphins, sea horse and centaur. The founder E. de Labroue was renowned for producing works of the highest quality, such as this exquisite sculptural table lamp. Working with some of the most important sculptors of the day, including Carrier-Belleuse and Pradier, he also exhibited at the Exposition Universelle, better known in English as the 1855 Paris Exposition, which was a world's fair held on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, France. less
