A macchie art glass vase by artisti barovier attribution, murano ca. 1920s a rare murano art glass vase manufactured most probably by artisti barovier around 1920s. Thin opaque white glass with multicoloured glass and aventurine inclusions overlayed with colorless glass. See wright 12.10.2009 lot nr. 602. Artisti barovier (today barovier & toso) is the oldest muranese glass manufactory founded in 1295. In the early 1900s benvenuto barovier, vittorio zecchin and umberto belotto designed a series of mosaik glasses in liberty style. In 1920 ercole barovier became artistic director. Under his direction barovier & toso won numerous awards for their innovations. In 1930 the award-winning “primavera” series was presented at the venice biennale. Barovier continued to produce innovative designs. Several of them became iconic status as there are the 'lenti', 'crepuscolo', 'autunno gemmato', 'oriente', 'rostrato', 'tessere' and 'barbarico' – just to name a few. The company became ferro toso vetrerie artistiche riunite s.a in 1936 when vetreria artistica barovier merged with ferro toso. In 1942, the company was renamed to barovier & toso. The company executed also designs of e. G. Matteo thun, giusto and renato toso, toni zuccheri and sergio asti.
