A wonderful wood-fired hanging flower-vase in the Chōsen-Karatsu style. This particular example has a pronounced keshiki (surface landscape) that is high in contrast and depth of colour. A pronounced frontage of cascading white and blue defines this piece. Upon close examination, orange speckles float at the top of the cascade. A finely detailed work with much character.
This particular vase was made by Tokusawa Moritoshi in a woodfired kiln. Tokusawa was apprentice to Nakazato Muan, and has won the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition award three times in his career. Tokusawa's Chōsen-Karatsu pieces are second to none.
