Functional and beautiful, this late Edo-period (1615-1868) bottle is decorated with a dark matte-black iron glaze and white straw-ash glaze around the mouth. This combination of glazes is typical of wares found in Kyushu. The body of the vessel has a wonderfully warm texture almost like leather. Accentuating the body is a constellation of iron-laden ishihaze (stone-bursts). less
