One of the most fascinating details about this piece (other than it hid cookies, crackers and biscuits!) is the hand-painted … more One of the most fascinating details about this piece (other than it hid cookies, crackers and biscuits!) is the hand-painted portrait of an elegant, well-coiffed woman, donning a green velvet dress (characteristic of the time period). This work of art was painted by none other than Gaston Bonfils, 1855-1946. Mr. Bonfils’ talent was recognized early and he spent his youth working for Limoges, painting fine porcelain pieces. As his talent matured, Gaston went on to become a recognized and coveted, master of oil on canvas paintings—he even reproduced this fair maiden’s portrait on some of his other works!
On the inside of the lid, it has been stamped,”Quadrupled Plated, Warranted, Crows (or Crown) Silver Co.”
