Originating from the Kutani region in Ishikawa Prefecture, Kutani-ware has a rich history that dates back to the 17th century and continues to be prized for its exquisite craftsmanship and beauty.

This Shirochibu Chawan is decorated in a colouring method popularised during the Taisho era (1912-1926), in which fine green dots called "blue grains" are laid out on top of the ground colour and accentuated with gold flowers. Furthermore, famous tea poems (waka) are written across the interior of the bowl; often finer than a hair’s width.

It is an elaborate technique that requires uniformity in the size and spacing of the grains. In addition to white grains, there are also blue, red and gold grains. It has a sense of calmness and dignity. less
