Sensitive to smells? We have just the piece for you! This fabulous antique cranberry glass perfume bottle comes in its original leather presentation case that still retains its blue silk and velvet linings. It is incredibly rare to find a bottle of this caliber, in this condition, still in its original case! This piece is especially unique as it also features a vinaigrette at the opposite end. The hinged lid opens to reveal an ornate grill where a vinegar soaked sponge would have been concealed. This exceptional dual use piece was specially commissioned to be used by the titled classes during the malodorous early Victorian period.
The bottle is comprised of gilded sterling silver; as evidenced by the hallmarks pictured on the both lids and the neck of the bottle. The hallmarks place the creation of this item in London 1845. The maker's mark of "SM" is also visible on each section of gilt silver (pictured). This refers to the business and patents of Sampson Morgan, a renowned British silversmith and the co-inventor of the first patented mechanical pencil! less
