Original and very special chandelier made in Space Age style; the whole architecture of the chandelier is made of polished brass chromed to thickness by galvanic bath; the central structure is a large round tube, and at the top are placed in a radial pattern 12 bars at the end of each is placed a chain that supports a metal cap with inserted a crystal ball; at the bottom 6 metal bars with a rectangular cross-section branch off from the tube, three of these have a crystal ball at the upper end and at the lower end is the housing for a bulb (see demonstration photo); in the other three the arrangement is reversed, that is, at the upper end is the light point while at the lower end is the crystal ball; in the central part of each bar is attached a chain that supports a metal cap with a crystal ball inserted, the same system used for the upper part of the chandelier. With this clever arrangement, three bulbs direct the light upward while the other three diffuse it downward; thus all the light in its path meets both the upper and lower crystal spheres, creating incredible plays of light and extraordinary rays; in addition, the polished metal surface of the entire structure helps to enhance and expand this luminous movement. It is the work of Gaetano Sciolari famous and prolific Italian designer and entrepreneur; designed and manufactured between 1970 and 1975 in Space Age style in an artisan workshop in Milan, one of the many that Sciolari used to make his creations. Angelo Gaetano Sciolari, born in 1927 in Italy, contributed greatly to the success of Italian design worldwide, particularly in the U.S. He was an outstanding businessman and an innovative creative designer. Throughout his career, he designed incredible lights. In 1949, after the death of his father, he had to run the family light manufacturing business. In just a few years, the designer transformed the firm into an international enterprise! Manufacturer Sciolari became the first seller of Italian lights in the United States (imported from America by Lightolier & Progress Lighting)! Gaetano Sciolari and his products have been an inspiration and model for artisans and important Italian lighting companies. The chandelier style is the "Space Age", this aesthetic current was born at the dawn of the space age, commonly attributed to the launch of Sputnik in October 1957, and continued until the 1970s. The objects of that period are characterized by essential volumes that recall geometric forms, which definitively break with the rationalist tradition. In the continuity of the 1950s, the design of the 1960s gives way to freedom and innovation. Design explodes into a variety of styles and movements, giving way to roundness, freedom of form and movement, lightness, and simplicity. Lamps of that period are characterized by essential volumes that recall geometric shapes. Curved, round, spherical lines are favored, definitively breaking with the rationalist tradition. The materials are cold, shiny, and metallic. Our chandelier with its simple and essential design hides an ingenious, innovative, and practical soul, ready to scatter light according to our needs; a model that is the result of careful stylistic research, in line with that historical period that straddled the past and the future. The chandelier with its special design, is ideal to decorate and illuminate in a refined and brilliant way any room in the house, elegant and modern furniture object. The chandelier is in good condition, the chrome parts show very slight and irrelevant signs of time, but this guarantees its age and authenticity. Measures height cm.92, diameter cm.42. The electrical system is working but the wiring is European, voltage compatibility in other states should always be checked by an electrician before use. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects. less
