Among examples of historical Chōsen-Karatsu, one common shape was that of flower-vases. Perhaps owing to the blue-flowing affect seen in the glaze, many vessels created in this style hold a connotative function to water.
This large flower-vase is decorated with ornamental lugs/ears which balance the composition of its rising figure. Handbuilt with coils, a sharp drop was then gouged from the facing side; with an undulating lip, the shape invokes a natural scene, perhaps that of a waterfall. A sight on its own, but surely a compliment to any flower arrangement. less
